Cross-Country Trip Day 2

I have to apologize if there are typos in this blog - I'm trying to type while Don drives. We're currently in Illinois - but let me catch you up on our morning and afternoon so far.

I got up at 6:45 (Impressed?!) and went to the hotel's fitness center to workout. I was thrilled with how big it was and how many machines they had. I was able to run, do a strength circuit, and then run again. I felt great during and afterwards. When I got back to the room at 7:30 the boys were still asleep. By the time I got showered and dressed, they were starting to wake up. I got all of our overnight stuff repacked and loaded back into the car. We decided to walk to a cafe on the next block - even though it was overcast and drizzling. (Hey - it beats sitting in a car for extra minutes that you don't have to!)

Turns out that the cafe isn't open for breakfast. Although downtown Huntington was great, we didn't find anywhere else to eat breakfast - so we got in the car and headed towards St Louis - planning to stop and eat at the next available place.

No one told us that between Huntington, WV and Lexington, KY there is NOTHING but rolling hills. Nothing. We FINALLY saw a sign for Cracker Barrel and I told Don I didn't care if he liked it or not we were stopping. It was already 11:15 and we were starving. After a nice meal we got back in the car and again headed to St Louis. We got through Kentucky - even though it rained the ENTIRE way across the state - and then into Indiana. I was getting tired of driving so when we saw a sign for Abe Lincoln's boyhood home we decided to stop, get out for a bit and then let Don take over driving. We had a GREAT time at the national historic site - but it was rainy and cold and pretty much empty - so we weren't there long.

The rain FINALLY stopped just as we crossed into Illinois, though it's really foggy out now. We are still about 2 hours from our hotel. I'll continue more tonight once we get settled...
